UPS Names Greg Carstens Managing Director of UPS Singapore
Greg Carstens, a senior operations manager with more than 25 years of experience throughout Asia, has been named the managing director of UPS's operations in Singapore.
Carstens assumes his new post after spending three years guiding the operations of UPS Thailand, including navigating a period of political unrest to ensure uninterrupted operations for UPS customers. He also played an initial role overseeing UPS's humanitarian relief efforts in Myanmar following the cyclone disaster of 2008.
"We are delighted to have Greg Carstens leading UPS in Singapore," said Craig Foster, vice president, South District, UPS Asia Pacific Region. "We will draw on his extensive experience in Asia to further develop our business in Singapore, which is a key strategic market for UPS."
Based in Singapore, Carstens will oversee all aspects of UPS's operations there, including marketing, business development, international trade services, industrial engineering, human resources, customer service, security, finance & accounting, supply chain solutions and air operations.
Carstens began his business career in 1981 in Sydney, Australia, working for a small freight forwarding company. In 1987, after holding various positions in the industry ranging from courier driver to export operations manager, Carstens became the operations manager for the service agent that UPS was using at the time in New Zealand. He joined UPS Australia in 1992 as an operations supervisor, then was promoted to brokerage manager in 1994 and operations manager in 1997.
In 1999, Carstens assumed command of UPS operations in New Zealand. He subsequently served as the general manager of UPS Vietnam from 2005 to 2007 before moving to Thailand.
"Singapore is a key strategic market not just for UPS, but also for many of our customers around the world," Carstens noted. "The country's strong economic credentials and geographical advantages make it a vital part of UPS's network in the Asia Pacific. Our customers are interested in growing their businesses and my immediate task is to support them with UPS's expertise in exports and logistics."
