Houston-Area Trucking, Freight Services Provider Drives Victory for Industry
Jetco Delivery named 2011 Enterprise Champion by Houston Business Journal
Jetco Delivery, a Houston-based trucking and freight services provider, was named a 2011 Enterprise Champion last week at the Houston Business Journal's 2011 Fast 100 Awards Ceremony. Of the 100 fastest growing businesses in Houston, five Enterprise Champions were chosen by a panel as the most well-rounded companies based on the following areas: benefits to employees, company culture, and service to the community. Jetco was the only trucking and freight services provider recognized in this category.
"We are very pleased to be recognized with such a prestigious honor and proud to represent this great industry," says Jetco CEO and president, Brian Fielkow. "Trucking and freight services are the backbone of the American economy and Jetco is happy to be recognized for adhering to high safety standards, pioneering technology and giving back to the community."
With a 34.71% two-year growth rate, Fielkow believes the recognition is for his employees and the trucking industry. Since purchasing the 35-plus-year-old company in 2006, Fielkow has improved employee benefit packages, added incentives through bonuses for safety, and maintained a focus on local and regional delivery to allow drivers to make it home almost every night. Under Fielkow's leadership, Jetco has also established a freight brokerage company to provide customers with reliable service nationwide.
"In an industry that faces 114 percent annual turnover of drivers, I am proud to have employees with 25 plus years of tenure in the company," says Fielkow. "Employee continuity helps us build an inter-company culture and means improved service for our customers."
Even in an uncertain business climate, Fielkow retains confidence that investments in newer fleet and technology will pay off in the long run. Jetco's fleet includes 2007-2011 trucks with more fuel efficiency and lower sulfur emissions, a chassis pool, and GPS in every truck so customers can track cargo online. Jetco has separate divisions focusing on intermodal, flatbed/heavy haul and less-than truck load.
"We are typically transporting costly, security-sensitive cargo so to me GPS in every truck was a no-brainer," says Fielkow. "Customers can track shipments and better anticipate delivery which will help improve their planning and logistics schedule. This translates to the peace-of-mind that every shipper needs."

In addition to improving industry standards, Fielkow feels businesses have a social responsibility to the community and lives up to this through involvement in many local charities, youth groups, and through the donation of trailers to Junior Achievement, ABC's "Extreme Makeover" show, and in disaster relief efforts from Hurricane Ike and the Gulf oil spill. Fielkow also serves as a board member of the Texas Motor Transportation Association (TMTA) and is the chairman of TMTA's Intermodal Committee. Jetco is also a proud participant in the EPA's Smartway Program and in the Houston Galveston Area Council.
